Recently I tried to talk to some young Caucasian kids about why this is important. I tried to explain to them that when someone says "all lives matter" it takes away from people of color and again moves the focus off the issue. I stressed that as a non-person of color we have a responsibility to put our privilege in check and to not take up space. Saying All lives matter takes up space. As parents it is our responsibility to talk about racism and hate. We need to expose our kids - our white kids - to what is happening in the news, so they can grow up supporting that Black Lives Matter.
